Edwards pedestrian hit by truck, dies

An Edwards man died at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, after being hit by a pickup while walking on Utica Street in Edwards, and the truck’s driver was jailed.

Witnesses told police that Terry Lee White, 55, East Street, was walking east in the middle of the street when he was hit by a 1999 Chevrolet driven by James A. Jefferson, 1048 Morris Road, Edwards, said Edwards Police Chief Louis Johnson.

Jefferson was in the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond this morning charged with vehicular manslaughter, Johnson said.

He said the driver said he could not see the pedestrian.

Johnson said his office is awaiting results of blood samples sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab.

White was pronounced dead at the scene. Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said. An autopsy was scheduled for today, she said
