A car leaves the Vicksburg National Cemetery Monday after gates were reopened to vehicles after being closed since mid-fall for a construction project to restabilize the banks of Mint Springs Bayou where erosion was threatening the southern portion of the cemetery. The 116-acre cemetery, the largest in the United States, was established by Congress in 1866 and contains 17,000 Union Civil War dead, including 13,000 unknown.
