Auto insurance law a joke

This is in reference to the editorial page article of Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 — Put teeth in auto insurance bill.

I would make this comment: I agree that the present law is a real joke.

The proposed bill will only get people to buy insurance for a month, when they buy their tags, IF IT IS ENFORCED.

I think the Legislature should promote a law that would be short and to the point.

Simply pass a law that reads: If you do not have insurance you are not legally on the road, therefore, when you have a wreck, you are in peril and automatically at fault, responsible for all damages, and barred from filing a suit against anyone. You must be responsible for your actions.

The impact on insurance companies would be a big plus. Just think, they would not be paying settlements to people who don’t have insurance, and they get to keep their uninsured motorist.

However, they would be paying more out on uninsured motorists, but the offset from not paying settlements would be a really big plus. Let’s not forget the plus of selling more insurance.
