Detectors to be doled out in Bovina district

Between 150 and 250 smoke and carbon dioxide detectors have been ordered for residents of the Bovina Volunteer Fire Protection District, thanks to a $2,500 grant from worldwide property insurer FM Global.

The dual-purpose detectors are expected to arrive in a month, Bovina volunteer and grant coordinator Jonathan Priddy said. Once they arrive, volunteers will make them available free of charge exclusively for district residents at the station at 4 Willow Creek Drive, Priddy said. A distribution day will be set, he said.

FM Global, a commercial and industrial insurance giant, insures hydrants, pump caps and other equipment owned by the 59.4 square-mile district covering the Bovina community and other areas east of Mississippi 27.
