Edwards pair arrested in theft of vehicle

An Edwards man and woman were arrested just after 4 Sunday morning and charged with conspiracy to commit auto theft, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Alexis McCullah, 26, 1168 O’Neill Drive, and Lorenzo Wilson, 22, 102 Edwards Drive, are accused of going with a third person to the Wingate by Wyndham hotel on South Frontage to steal a 1997 Saturn that belonged to a hotel employee, Stewart said. The Saturn was seen leaving the parking lot with a white Toyota Camry behind it.

Hours later, a Warren County deputy saw the two cars and, after a short chase, got the Camry to stop on U.S. 80 just past the county line.

“It was good work on the part of the deputies,” Sheriff Martin Pace said, because the deputy chasing the Saturn called off the pursuit for safety reasons due to heavy fog and his unfamiliarity with Smith Station Road in Hinds County.

The Saturn was recovered at 10 that morning in Edwards.

McCullah was released from the Warren County Jail on a $15,000 bond at about 5 p.m. Sunday. Wilson was being held without bond pending an initial hearing.

Police were still looking for the third person.
