John Herren Hughes Sr.

John Herren Hughes Sr. died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the River Region Medical Center. He was 85.
Mr. Hughes was born July 25, 1925, in Catchings, Miss., and lived most of his life in the Mississippi towns of Valley Park, Bruce and Vicksburg, where he had farming interests. Prior to his retirement to Vicksburg, he had lived in Jackson, Tenn.
He was a member of the Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Oates Hughes, in July 2010; and his parents, Joseph Johnston Hughes and Maurine Nott Hughes.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Katherine Hughes Ferguson (Mickey) of Puckett, Miss.; sons, Thomas H. Hughes Jr. (Elaine) of Clarksville, Tenn., and John Herren Hughes (Jean) of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Amy Anderson (Keathon) of Vicksburg, Jay Jay Hughes of Vicksburg, Kathy Gibson (Hubert) of Mize, Miss., Jason Ferguson (Ashliegh) of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Marie and Roy Hughes of Clarksville. He also had nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Greg Hazelrig, Mickey Ferguson and Dural Ragsdale officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John H. Hughes Jr., John H. Hughes III, Hubert Gibson, Jason Ferguson, Steve Barlowe and Billy Whitten.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Grayson Sunday school class of Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church.
Glenwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
