Southern Miss had a perfect weekend getaway in sunny Florida.

Marc Bourgeois had two hits and three RBIs Sunday, leading the Golden Eagles to a 5-2 victory over Central Florida and a three-game sweep of the Knights in Orlando. USM’s fifth straight victory also gave it sole possession of second place in Conference USA. Southern Miss (22-5, 5-1) trails Houston, which has only played one conference series, by one game.

Southern Miss took the lead for good by scoring twice in the top of the third inning. Tyler Koelling’s two-out single to left field gave the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead, and he later scored on a single by Bourgeois.

After UCF (19-9, 2-4) cut it to 3-2 on Darnell Sweeney’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, Southern Miss added two more runs in the eighth to put it away. A two-run single by Bourgeois brought in both runs.

Jonathan Thompson allowed one run in six innings to get the win for Southern Miss. Dillon Day worked the final three innings for his first save of the season.
