An argument over a Pattison man’s dating the mother of a Fayette’s man’s children led to a fatal shooting just after noon Thursday, Claiborne County Sheriff Frank Davis said.

Leroy Chambliss, 42, was shot several times, Davis said, after he and Willie Howard, 47, argued over Howard’s interests in dating the woman. Howard surrendered to the sheriff’s department about three hours after the shooting, though no weapon was recovered, Davis said.

Chambliss was pronounced dead on the scene at LeCasha Subdivision in the southeast part of Claiborne County, at 12:55 p.m., Claiborne County Coroner J.W. Mallett said

He said he did not know how many times Chambliss was shot, but most of the wounds were in the chest and face.

An autopsy was scheduled for today at the state crime lab in Jackson.

Howard was in the Claiborne County Jail this morning.
