Ole Miss’ bats woke up in time to prevent Georgia from breaking out the brooms.

The Rebels collected 18 hits, led by a 4-for-5 effort from Taylor Hightower, and beat Georgia 12-7 in the series finale Sunday.

Alex Yarbrough and Matt Tracy drove in three runs apiece for Ole Miss (20-13, 5-7 Southeastern Conference), which avoided the sweep with one of its best offensive outings of the season.

“Today we came out with great energy and the belief that we could win and avoid the sweep,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said. “The difference between today and the rest of the weekend was that we got timely hits during tough at-bats with counts 3-1 or 3-2. The mindset of any team is always important, and I think that with this win we can refocus and gain momentum.”

Yarbrough went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored for Ole Miss, which blew the game open with a seven-run fourth inning. Yarbrough and Hightower each singled in a pair of runs during the big rally, which put the Rebels ahead 10-2.

Georgia (18-15, 8-4) hit three home runs — one each by Kyle Farmer, Brett DeLoach and Curt Powell — but couldn’t get close enough to threaten the Rebels.

Austin Wright (4-3) struck out nine batters and allowed three runs in six innings to get the win.

Ole Miss will face Southern Miss Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
