A Vicksburg woman was arrested Monday morning and charged with misdemeanor child neglect after her 2-year-old daughter was found walking in the middle of the 3300 block of Drummond Street just before 10 a.m., Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

The child was picked up by a passing motorist in the 3400 block. He then went door to door trying to find the girl’s parents before calling police. The child was handed over to the Department of Human Services, which was keeping the child until a court hearing for the mother was scheduled for today.

The mother, who told police she was sleeping and thought the child was with her father, was released from police custody at 2 p.m. Monday, after posting a $1,325.50 bond.
