Tutoring helpful

Vicksburg Intermediate held the first ever Saturday MCT2 tutoring session March 19.

The sessions came from teachers who brainstormed about what they could do to strengthen skills and to make things better for our students. We had about 40 students who took advantage of the first opportunity.

On April 9, we held our second session with 116 students. Our third session will be April 30, and our last session will be May 7.

These sessions require commitment, dedication and effort from the students, parents and staff.

As a student, it’s hard to get up and come to school on a Saturday morning.

Many parents work on Saturdays. Some use Saturdays to get things done. Instead, the parents have provided transportation to and from tutoring, though gas prices are on the rise.

Lastly, there is the most amazing group who truly makes it all possible — the teachers. Without them, we wouldn’t even have had the idea. On Saturday mornings, they come with bright smiles, soft voices and warm pats on the backs to teach with no compensation, except the fact that they are doing it from the heart because they care.
