Bessie Mae Taylor Smith died Friday, April 15, 2011, in Huntsville, Ala. She was 102.

A native of Greenville, Mrs. Smith was a first-grade teacher at Grove Street Elementary School for many years. She was also a volunteer park tour guide for the Vicksburg National Military Park.

She was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George V. Smith.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Smith Webb and husband Bob of Huntsville; and two grandsons, Brian Webb and wife Lucie of Bellingham, Wash., and Neal Webb of Orlando, Fla.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Cary Stockett officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
