Pete Michael Summers died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Vicksburg Promise Hospital. He was 73.
A resident of Vicksburg since 1965, he was born in Burlington, N.C., and was the son of the late Pete S. Summers and Mabel Kinney Summers. Mr. Summers was a graduate of Hickory High School and attended Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C., later serving in the Air Force.
Mr. Summers retired from International Paper Company with 32 1/2 years service. He coached Dixie Youth Baseball, Grey Y football and attended Westminster Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley W. Summers; daughter, Terisa Cochran (David) of Vicksburg; two sons, Tim Summers of Jackson and Ken Summers (Judi) of Martinez, Ga.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Miller of Hickory; and friends, Melissa Wooten and family and Wendy Summers.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home with Scott Reiber, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the service.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Summers Jr., Austin Summers, Brian Hall, Clayton Cochran, Kyle McCaskill and Johnny Kaiser.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jody Wilson, Christie Hale and the staff of Gilbert’s Home Health.
