No Easter greeting?

I seldom write Letters to the Editor, but after looking at last Sunday’s Vicksburg Post, I was compelled to comment on the total absence of any Easter greeting on the front page. In fact, it wasn’t until I turned to the editorial page that any mention was made of the occasion.

I was both saddened and angry with the Post’s decision to focus on a tornado event from last year rather than on the event that forever changed the world. Somewhat short-sighted or wrong priorities? I cannot imagine. Even the Clarion-Ledger had a “Happy Easter” banner on its front page.

Just last year my sister in Dallas was bemoaning the fact that the Dallas Morning News made absolutely no reference to Easter, beyond the paid advertisements for sales. There was not even a passing mention on the editorial page.

With great glee, I sent her our front page from the Post, which even in the tumult throughout the world, announced the marvelous truth of the Resurrection. That will not be possible this year.

Can we claim progress to the level of the Dallas Morning News and pat ourselves on the back for our advancement? Ummm, maybe not.

I do wonder what Louis Cashman might have said about this sad and appalling turn of events.
