A Vicksburg man who was shot in the stomach Sunday night drove himself to the hospital. Another man was in the Warren County Jail this morning.

Corey Thompson, 25, 4880 U.S. 80, told police he was shot in the stomach at Confederate Ridge Apartments, 780 U.S. 61 North, around 9:30 p.m., Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Jeremy Wright, 26, a resident of the complex, is accused of the shooting.

Thompson told police he was approached in the apartment parking lot by two males wearing ski masks attempting to rob him, Stewart said.

During the attempted robbery, Wright said he fired shots, but did not know he had hit someone, Stewart said.

Wright was arrested at a convenience store near the complex.

River Region Medical Center had no record of Thompson being treated, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said.

Wright was charged with aggravated assault and held without bond pending an initial hearing this morning.

The gun used in the shooting was recovered at the apartment complex, Stewart said.
