Dr. Troy Lee Jenkins

Dr. Troy Lee “Doc” Jenkins died Friday, May 6, 2011, at River Region Medical Center. He was 66.

Born in Utica, he made his home in Vicksburg where he had a dental practice. He attended Hinds Community College in Raymond and graduated from Millsaps College. He went on to the University of Tennessee Dental School in Memphis where he graduated in 1971. He was an exceptional athlete, having been inducted in the Sports Hall of Fame at Hinds Community College and Millsaps College.

He currently was serving as district commissioner of ASA for the surrounding communities. He was past president of the Vicksburg Dental Society. He was an avid golfer and founder of Dr. J’s Golf Tournament.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Edwin and Nell Brister Jenkins.

He leaves his wife, Joan R. Jenkins of Vicksburg; a daughter, Vicki Webb of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; a son, Jason Jenkins and fiancee Kayla of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Shelby J. Lewis (Bobby) of Utica; three nieces, Lisa Whatley (Rick), Lori Mitchell (Mark) and Lesley Carter (Christian); one great-niece, Amber Mitchell (Will); four great-nephews, Justin Caldecott (Amanda), Brett Caldecott (Crystal), Nick Mitchell and Connor Carter; and a goddaughter, Macy Ryan Caldecott of Utica.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Vicksburg, and interment will follow at the Utica Cemetery in Utica. Visitation will be from noon Tuesday until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Cecil Jones, Donald Frith, Tom Engdahl, Jerry Huskey, Howard Benson, Mike Jackson, Ray Hagar and E.T. Colvin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Elvis Sledge, Mackey Hopkins, Tim Millis, Greg Kitchens, Tony Reed and the ASA Softball Family.
