Doreen Grant McGee Brock

AUSTIN, Texas — Doreen Grant McGee Brock, age 57, passed away on May 5, 2011, at home following a long battle with lung cancer.

She was born in Detroit on Oct. 24, 1953, and lived in Garden City, Mich., for 17 years before moving to Vicksburg. Doreen was a 1971 graduate of H.V. Cooper High School in Vicksburg.

Doreen “Doe” recently retired from the State of Texas General Land Office after 27 years of service. She was a computer software trainer and later moved into program development as a Systems Analyst IV. Doe was also a certified training professional, having completed the “Training and Development Certification Program” at Texas A&M University.

As a member of Anderson Mill Baptist Church, she was very involved in many church activities.

Doreen was preceded in death by parents, Jeff M. and Gladys S. Grant; husband, Richard E. Brock; and infant son, Jeffrey Thomas Stroud.

Survivors include daughter, Heather W. Camp (Eric) of Round Rock, Texas; sons, Mitchell G. Brock and Mason E. Brock of Austin; grandson, Trevor Camp of Round Rock; brother, J. Larry Grant of Vicksburg; niece, Shara Grant Heusinger of Vicksburg; and nephew, Alan Grant of Madison, Miss.

Doreen’s family wishes to say thanks to the wonderful people at Hospice Austin, and also a special heartfelt thank you to her dear friends who were her caregivers during the last months of her life — Lynda Liberty, Mamie Toupin, Mary Renda and Della Crosby, along with the numerous volunteers of Anderson Mill Baptist Church and the General Land Office.

A visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Cook-WaldenChapel of the Hills Funeral Home in Austin. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Anderson Mill Baptist Church, 10633 Lake Creek Parkway, Austin. Burial will follow at Bagdad Cemetery in Leander, Texas.
