PORT GIBSON — Velma Turner Barnes died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Promise Hospital in Vicksburg. She was 78.

Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Barnes; her parents, Henry Collins and Hannah Davis; and two sisters, Gladys Watson and Dorothy Collins.

She is survived by two sons, Eddie Barnes of St. Louis, Mo., and Keith Barnes of Dunleith, Miss.; three daughters, Akeia Barnes and Zion Barnes, both of Port Gibson, and Patricia Outlaw of Indiana; a sister, Beulah Dalton of Houston, Texas; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Terry and Connie Watson of Port Gibson.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Thompson Memorial Garden Cemetery in Port Gibson. Burial will follow under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson.
