Shameka Valentine, 21, reacts this morning as smoke pours from New Main Apartments, where she lives, at 2727 Alcorn Drive. Valentine, her mother, Neomia Valentine, and her 3-year-old niece were in the apartment when it caught fire. Valentine said she walked into the living room about 8:30 and found flames near the couch. The three ran from the apartment. The source of the blaze, Vicksburg Fire Department Investigator Leslie Decareaux said, was a faulty electrical outlet. The 33 residents in the eight apartments in the building were displaced. Comforting Valentine is Vicksburg police investigator Randy Naylor.
