Four Vicksburg residents, two of them children, were taken to the hospital Saturday after the van in which they were passengers overturned at Clay and Mulberry streets, police Sgt. Penny Branch said.

The driver, Arthur Brown, 34, 2013 Oak St., Apt. B, who did not require medical treatment, told police the brakes on the 1993 GMC van failed as he was headed west on Clay Street around 2 p.m.

Brown said he tried to turn onto Mulberry Street to avoid careening down the hill and the van overturned, Branch said.

In addition, two children, ages 3 and 4, who were unrestrained in the van, were taken to River Region. They also were treated and released, Branch said.
