Wheelchair Garden

Published 11:00 am Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Warren Central students from left, John Lumbley, Phillip Grantham, Buster Ervin and Maurice Davis stand with Vicksburg Convalescent Home employees Amie LaSalle and Herscine Brown and resident Joseph Wright next to a wheelchair garden built by the students for their final project at Hinds Community College. The garden is raised several feet off the ground so residents who cannot kneel can still work in the dirt. The students used the skills they learned in welding, masonry and carpentry vocational technical classes at Hinds and supplies donated by The Home Depot to create the garden. John, 16, is the son of John Lumbley Sr. and Rhonda Wright; Phillip, 16, is the son of Randy and Pauline Vessell; Buster, 16, is the son of John Ervin and Lynn Ford; and Maurice, 16, is the son of Maurice Davis Sr. and Jackie Wilson.
