Richard Allen Selby

Richard Allen Selby, 62, lifetime resident of Vicksburg, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at his home in Bovina. Services will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Bovina on Saturday, May 28. Visitation will be from 8:30 until 10 a.m., with the worship service beginning at 10.
Ricky was born to the late Claude Hamilton and Anne Allen Selby of Vicksburg. A standout athlete and graduate of H.V. Cooper High School, he held state records in the 300 meter hurdles for many years and received an athletic scholarship to Mississippi State University, where he earned a degree in 1971. Mr. Selby was a businessman involved in real estate development, construction and several other pursuits. Although he achieved success in his various businesses, his greatest joy was mentoring and working alongside his three sons. Above all, family was most important.
Preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Anne Selby, and his brother, Allan B. Selby, Ricky is survived by his wife, Betsy Biedenharn Selby; three sons, Richard Allen Selby II of Bovina, Charles Biedenharn Selby of Vicksburg, David Nicholson Selby and his wife, Anna Marsh Selby of Jackson; and cherished grandson, Lawson Maddox Selby of Bovina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 5930 Warriors Trail, Vicksburg, MS 39180 or to a favorite charity.
