In previous Stamm Invitational Swim Meets, the Vicksburg swim team’s drive to the top of the team standings would be thwarted by the overwhelming numbers of its opponents.

That will not be the case for this year’s Stamm Invitation, which began today and will run through Sunday at Vicksburg City Pool.

Vicksburg swim team coach Matthew Mixon said a new crop of swimmers helped boost the program’s overall numbers.

“We’re going to have the biggest team entered in the event and that will be a first for us,” Mixon said. “Our team has been growing the last couple of years. I would say we’re up about 15 swimmers from last year, and that gives us the largest group that we’ve had.”
