The women whose bodies were found about a mile apart in Tallulah during the weekend were identified this morning, and authorities reportedly have a suspect or suspects.
The women were identified as 18-year-old Nikeshie Washington and 19-year-old Jasmine Smith, both of Tallulah, Louisiana State Police said.
Washington was found at about 7:30 Friday night in a wooded area off Wyche Street, near Wright Elementary School.
Hours later, on Saturday morning, the body of Jasmine Smith, 19, was found about a mile away at Tallulah City Park off Tank Street.
Authorities were saying little this morning about the two women, their relationship to each other and whether both deaths, believed to be homicides, are related.
However, Sixth Judicial District Attorney Jim Paxton reportedly said during the weekend that Louisiana State Police have a person or persons of interest, though no arrests had been made.
Smith reportedly had a 3-year-old son and lived with her grandmother near the Tallulah City Park.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Tallulah Police Department, the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Department, the Sixth District Attorney’s Office and Louisiana State Police Detectives.
