Donell Linares went 4-for-4, then the Mississippi Braves went 1-for-2.

Linares belted two home runs and drove in five runs while having a perfect game at the plate, leading the M-Braves to an 8-1 victory over Huntsville in the first half of a doubleheader on Thursday.

In game two, Huntsville scored seven runs in the fourth inning and avoided the sweep with a 7-2 victory.

Linares got the M-Braves off to a good start in the first game by hitting a three-run homer in the top of the first inning. He added a two-run shot in the fifth to make it 8-1, and also had a pair of singles and scored two runs.

Jordan Kreke hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for the M-Braves and Ernesto Mejia went 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Randall Delgado (5-4) pitched a seven-inning complete game and earned the win. Despite allowing nine hits, he didn’t walk a batter and struck out six.

Game two wasn’t nearly as fun for the M-Braves. After taking a 2-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI double by Mejia, things quickly fell apart in the bottom of the fourth.

An error, wild pitch and hit batsman brought in Huntsville’s first run, then Logan Schafer gave the Stars the lead with a two-run single. Sean Halton added another two-run single after a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-2, and Steffan Wilson capped the rally with an RBI double.

The teams meet again tonight in game three of their six-game series in Huntsville. First pitch is scheduled for 6:43 p.m.

The M-Braves return home on Monday night to begin a four-game series against the Jackson Generals at Trustmark Park.
