Dr. Briggs, Dr. Atwood to marry in Maryland

Carol and Bill Briggs of Potomac, Md., announce the engagement of their daughter, Dr. Angela Adell of Cordova, Tenn., to Dr. Emmett Chase Atwood, also of Cordova. Dr. Atwood is the son of Valerie and Ray Atwood of Vicksburg.

Dr. Briggs is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Yates of Needmore, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Monte Loeb of Potomac; and Mr. and Mrs. William Lawrence Briggs of Waldorf, Md.

Dr. Atwood is the grandson of Joy Dupuy and the late Don McVan Sr., Vivian Atwood and Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Atwood Sr., all of Vicksburg.

The bride-elect is a 2001 graduate of Thomas Wooten High School in Potomac and a 2005 graduate of the University of Maryland, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in animal sciences.

She is a 2011 graduate of Mississippi State University, where she received a doctorate from the College of Veterinary Medicine. She was a member of Alpha Psi veterinary fraternity and Phi Zeta national veterinary honors fraternity.

Dr. Briggs has entered small-animal general practice at Southwind Veterinary Hospital in Memphis.

The prospective groom is 2002 honor graduate of Warren Central High School and a 2006 magna cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife and forestries. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi.

He is a 2010 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he received a doctorate from the College of Veterinary Medicine. He was a member of Alpha Psi veterinary fraternity and Phi Zeta national veterinary honors fraternity.

Dr. Atwood completed a small-animal rotating internship and has begun his surgical residency at Memphis Veterinary Specialists.

The wedding will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 27, 2011, at Potomac United Methodist Church. A reception will follow at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda, Md. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.
