Services for Pastor Ester Joe “E.J.” Crawford will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Triumph Church, 136 Honeysuckle Lane. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
Pastor Crawford died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was 60.
He was born in Rankin County to Sheddie and Pinkey Brown and was adopted by the late Shamrock and Lillie Crawford. He was a 1969 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School and attended Alcorn State University, Hinds Junior College and Pivot Point International. He was a licensed barber and cosmetologist.
He became an ordained minister in 1990 and, later that year, founded Joshua Generation Baptist Church in Tallulah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Brown and Fred Brown; and a daughter, Kimya M. Crawford.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Jean Crawford of Vicksburg; one son, Pastor Brian T. Crawford of Vicksburg; one daughter, Ruby S. Smith of Atlanta; a brother, Shurley Brown of Pontiac, Mich.; three sisters, Ann Brown of Washington, D.C., Betty Brown of Killeen, Texas, and Linda Gamble of Jackson; two grandsons; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
