Eagle Lake residents should not feel shame over pier repairs

I’m one of the residents who had a pier destroyed by the floodwaters. I do agree with Martin Mendrop that the Corps of Engineers and contractors did a great job maintaining the levees.
I just wonder if the Mississippi levee had been maintained and known problem areas repaired prior to flooding conditions, would Eagle Lake have had to be flooded? Why did it have to be reactive instead of proactive?
Based on the taxes I pay on my pier, I do not agree with Martin’s assessment of the condition of my pier. In closing, if Martin Mendrop had lakefront property, would he still think that we should be ashamed for wanting help to restore the banks and piers?
