A Vicksburg man was arrested and two others hospitalized Sunday after an early morning shooting at the New Main Apartments in the 2700 block of Alcorn Drive, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

Williams said Michael Thomas Jr., 23, 102 Elm Lane, is accused of shooting Anthony Terry, 20, 113 Galtney Drive, in the back, and Jay’zar Pugh 18, 1415 First North St., in the leg with a small-caliber handgun. She said police arrested Thomas at his home after the 3:31 a.m. shooting.

Thomas was being held without bond in the Warren County Jail pending an initial appearance today in Vicksburg Municipal Court.

Williams said Terry and Pugh were both admitted to River Region Medical Center. She said Terry was undergoing surgery this morning and Pugh was scheduled to undergo surgery sometime today.

She said the shooting was the result of an argument between the men in the apartment complex parking lot. She said witnesses told police that the argument became physical and Thomas left the apartment complex, but returned with the gun and began shooting.

Terry was taken to River Region by car before police arrived, Williams said. While the officers were at the hospital emergency room talking to Terry, she said, Pugh arrived for treatment.
