White, Poe exchange vows at The Corners

Andrew Stephen White and Ruth Elizabeth Poe were married at 5:30 p.m. June 4, 2011, at The Corners Mansion in Vicksburg. The Rev. Gene Neal of Quitman officiated at the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Poe of Vicksburg. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Jimmy Houston and the late Mr. Houston of Brandon and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur L. Poe of Cleveland.
The groom is the son of Phylis White and Gordon White of Vicksburg. He is the grandson of Mrs. Homer White and the late Mr. White of Shreveport, La., and Joseph Fisher and the late Mrs. Joseph Fisher of Luling, La.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride’s chosen colors were apple red and angel white. Music for the ceremony was provided by Kim Halloran, violinist; Sheila Hess, pianist; and Kimberly Ragsdale, soloist.
Maid of honor was Kasey Mitchell of Picayune. Bridesmaids were Katy Chmelicek and Lauren Musto, both of Hattiesburg; Meryl Dakin of Slidell, La.; and Melissa Dunne of Birmingham, Ala.
Flower girls were Veronica Smithhart of San Antonio, Texas, and Caroline Shappley of Hattiesburg, both cousins of the bride. The Cord of Three Strands was presented by Sarah Rogers, cousin of the bride, of Katy, Texas.
Michael Bake of Vicksburg served as best man. Groomsmen were Adam White, brother of the groom, of Crosby, Texas; Matthew Nichelson and Landon Pugh, both of Hattiesburg; and William Poe of Vicksburg and James Poe of Hattiesburg, both brothers of the bride.
Reading the Chord of Three Strands was Vincent Stephens of Pelham, Ala.
Program attendants were the bride’s cousins: Will Shappley of Hattiesburg and Alex Smithhart of San Antonio,
Special wedding assistants were Kimball Bufkin, Becky Brown, Harriet Gray, Macy Whitney and Carol Ann Oakman.
Tatiana Smithhart of San Antonio served as the bride’s proxy.
The bride’s parents hosted two receptions for the couple — the first was at noon at First Baptist Church before the ceremony and a second followed the ceremony at The Corners.
Music was provided by Tim Tompkins. Additional assistants were Steen Tompkins and Jason Hopkins.
For a honeymoon, the couple traveled to Mazatlan, Mexico. They are residing in Hattiesburg.
The bride is employed at Regions Mortgage in Hattiesburg and is a graduate student for her master’s degree in history at the University of Southern Mississippi. The groom is in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, works at Microtel Inn & Suites of Hattiesburg and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Bridesmaids’ brunch
A bridesmaids’ brunch was held at noon the day before the wedding at Cedar Grove Mansion. Hostesses were Becky Brown, Frances Chipley, Evelyn Houston and Denice Poe.
Rehearsal dinner
On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s mother hosted a rehearsal dinner for the bridal party and families at Duff’s Tavern and Grill.
Announcement party
An announcement party, attended by family and friends of the bride and groom, was held in Hattiesburg at the home of Ruth Poe.
Showers
Kasey Mitchell, Meryl Dakin, Katy Chmelicek, Lauren Musto and Melissa Dunne hosted a miscellaneous shower at the Kasey Mitchell home in Hattiesburg.
The bride was honored with a shower at First Baptist Church of Vicksburg. Hostesses were Becky Brown, Kristy Brumfield, Teresa Chaney, Frances Chipley, Mary June Cooksey, Marilyn Daggett, Janie Easterling, Lori Edney, Debbie Freeman, Shirley George, Harriett Gray, Peggy Harper, Lisa Ingram, Ann McCarley, Jeanie McDonald, Lynda Oswalt, Amy Robinson, Lydia Strayer, Linda Strong, Georganne Swillie, Connie Tanner, Julie Tillotson and Jennifer Tillotson.
