The Mississippi Braves had a promising start to their series with first-place Mobile.

The rest was forgettable, to say the least.

Marc Krauss’ RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning snapped a 4-all tie, and the Mobile BayBears went on to beat the M-Braves 5-4 in the series finale on Sunday night.

Taylor Harbin, who scored the go-ahead run, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Mobile, and Krauss drove in two runs. Dan Nelson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the M-Braves.

The teams went back and forth until Krauss’ hit put Mobile ahead for good.

Mobile took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, the M-Braves tied it in the sixth and Mobile scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to go up again, 4-2.

In the seventh inning, Nelson drove in a run with a double and then scored on a triple by Harrilchak to tie the game at 4.

Mobile took the last four games of the series after dropping the opener on Thursday night, and likely eliminated Mississippi from contention for the Southern League’s South Division championship.

With 20 games to play in the regular season, Mobile leads the M-Braves by 12 1/2 games. The teams do not meet again.

The M-Braves will begin playing out the string on Tuesday, when they open a five-game series at Trustmark Park against the Huntsville Stars.
