One teen shot, another jailed at Washington club

A 15-year-old Vicksburg resident was shot in the leg and a 16-year-old was jailed in a shooting late Saturday night at a teenage club on Washington Street.

The victim was not identified, but Sgt. Sandra Williams of the Vicksburg Police Department said he underwent surgery at River Region Medical Center to have a small-caliber bullet removed from his leg. She said he had been released from the hospital.

Arrested in the shooting and charged as an adult with aggravated assault was Albert Buchanan, 365 Drayton St., Williams said. She said he was arrested at about 2 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 1000 block of Harris Street.

The shooting was reported at Swag Stars Dance Company, 1925 Washington St., Williams said. She said it is operated for teens by Roosevelt Cooper, whose age and address were not available.

Buchanan was to appear in Vicksburg Municipal Court today.

Williams said the shooting occurred after an argument in the club about 11:58 p.m. Saturday.
