Bovina Baptist to consider request for voting precinct

Church deacons at Bovina Baptist Church will mull an offer from Warren County to house the Bovina voting precinct for the Nov. 8 general election, District 1 Supervisor David McDonald said Wednesday.
If approved, the church will replace Bovina Elementary as the polling place and become the fourth change among the county’s 22 precincts since June. Traffic was cited as a reason to move across the interstate, officials said.
Terms call for the precinct to be at the church through the 2015 election cycle, board attorney Randy Sherard said. The change was approved by the county board Tuesday, pending the church’s approval.
The polling place for Jett precinct was moved to Immanuel Baptist Church and No. 7 Fire Station was moved to Travelers Rest Baptist Church. Both changes were attributed to complaints of heat during the Aug. 2 primary and the Aug. 23 runoff.
Places of worship now house 11 of the county’s 22 precincts.
