Meeting Thursday:
• Introduced students who achieved perfect scores on specific areas of the 2011 MCT2 and Subject Area Tests.
• Approved minutes from Aug. 23 and 25 meetings.
• Heard superintendent’s report on conference travels. The superintendent is considering attending five, out-of-state professional conferences through July 2012.
• Tabled listening to the district financial report because VWSD financial director Dale McClung was not present.
• Accepted donations: $250 from Staffing Solutions to Dara Hendrix’s kindergarten class at Beechwood Elementary; $1,000 from Walmart to Dana Road Elementary; and $50 from Faunlee Harle on behalf of Mark and Lisa Larch to Sherman Avenue Elementary.
• Approved amendments to the 2011-12 budget.
• Approved personnel matters for the 2011-12 school year: compensation for extra duties, August; certified recommendations; certified change in status; Project SYNC tutors, mentors and teachers recommendations; classified personnel; classified substitutes; and requests for additional compensation.
• Accepted a computer and monitor donation from Tammy McCurley. The items will be used at Vicksburg Intermediate.
• Approved changes to capital assets inventory.
• Approved the following out-of-state travel: Laura Prather and Paula Johnson for the National Title I Conference in Seattle Jan. 21 to 24; Rosemary Wilson, India Wooten and Melissa Snow for a special education conference in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 2 to 5; Wilson, Val Cook and Trina Smith for early childhood conference in National Harbor, Md., Nov. 17 to 20; Warren Central High Big Blue Band for Hoover Invitational Marching Band competition in Hoover, Ala., Oct. 15; WCHS basketball cheerleaders for UCA Spirit Day in Memphis Nov. 19; Leonard Winters and Darrel Ward for 2011 Midwest Clinic in Chicago Dec. 14 to 17; Vicksburg High Mississippi River Class for a visit to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mat sinking unit at Lake Providence, La., in mid-October; LaToya Lott for Scholastic Math Leadership Summit in Boston Oct. 12 to 14; and Kelda Bailess and Tondia Ferracci for NSTA conference in New Orleans Nov. 8 to 12.
• Tabled review of board policies C and D.
• Approved 16th Section land request from Open Door Bible Church for a renewal lease.
• Approved the district’s test security plan.
• Approved use of bleachers for WCHS Big Blue Band alumni reunion.
In closed session:
• Acted on two student transfers.
• Upheld recommendations from the district discipline review committee.
