Hinds Community College did it with defense on Thursday night.

The Eagles forced two turnovers, held Jones County Junior College to 171 yards of total offense — and minus-7 rushing yards — and cruised to a 34-7 victory.

Adonis Armstrong had two of the turnovers for Hinds with a pair of interceptions. He returned one of them 65 yards for a touchdown.

Hinds (5-1, 3-0 MACJC South) rushed for 236 yards and totaled 407 yards on offense. Quarterback Deon Anthony completed 16 of 26 passes for 159 yards, and also ran 17 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

Jeremy Palmer added 86 rushing yards for Hinds, and Kyle Williams kicked two field goals.

Hinds coach Gene Murphy recorded career win No. 146, surpassing former Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College head coach Dick Foster for 15th on the NJCAA all-time wins list. Murphy is the winningest active head coach in the NJCAA.
