Fisher Ferry wreck sends one to hospital

A Vicksburg man was taken to the hospital Friday evening after flipping his van on Fisher Ferry Road, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Shannon Wayne Gentry, 36, 101 Ethel Drive, was driving south in a 1993 GMC van about 6 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle near Indian Hills Road. The van veered off the left side of the road and overturned, landing on its roof in a heavily wooded area, Pace said.

“Had it not been for a witness, it would have been very difficult to see the van in all the foliage,” said the sheriff.

Gentry was able to free himself, Pace said, and emergency workers took him to River Region Medical Center, where his condition was still being determined Friday night, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said.

No other vehicles were involved, said Pace.
