23rd annual Germanfest Lutheran church grilling up festive fun

Trinity Hall at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah looks plain at the moment, but Saturday evening it will be transformed when the church’s annual Germanfest returns for its 23rd year.

“I promise you, it will be festive,” Ruth Osburn, wife of pastor Gary Osburn, said as she looked around the room. “We’ll have decorations hanging from the ceiling.”

Begun in 1988, the latest edition of Germanfest will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church at 301 Cain Ridge Road, bringing a touch of Germany’s Okteroberfest events to its guests.

The entertainment will be polka music. The menu will feature bratwurst, German potato salad and calico beans, with an alternate hot dog plate available. Bratwurst plates are $8. Hot dog plates are $4. Diners may eat at the church or take a plate to go.
