It’s been four years since Warren County has had a player selected to participate in the prestigious Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Classic.

This year’s group of seniors is making up for lost time.

Two players, Vicksburg High receiver A.J. Stamps and Warren Central punter Devon Bell, were picked to play in the game that will take place Dec. 10 in Montgomery, Ala.

Port Gibson receiver Adarius Barnes was picked as well.

No area players were selected for the Bernard Blackwell Classic, the Mississippi-only all-star game that’s scheduled for Dec. 17.

Stamps has emerged as one of the top receivers in the state in his senior season. He has broken, or is on the verge of breaking, nearly every Warren County receiving record and is third in the state in receiving yards.

Heading into Friday night’s game against Murrah, Stamps has caught 57 passes for 1,021 yards and 14 touchdowns. With three games left in the season, he has already notched his second consecutive 1,000-yard season.

Bell has also staked a claim as one of Mississippi’s best. His average of 42.8 yards per punt ranks second in the state. He has also converted 13 of 13 extra point attempts and gone 2-for-4 on field goals.

Bell, who has committed to Mississippi State, has booted all but a few of his kickoffs this season into the end zone for touchbacks.

Barnes has helped Port Gibson to a 7-2 record this season while playing wide receiver, quarterback, running back and defensive back. Despite only catching 10 passes, five of them have gone for touchdowns and he’s averaging 35.6 yards per reception.

Barnes has also scored four touchdowns on the ground, and threw for three while filling in at quarterback in a win over Raymond.

Barnes has committed to Mississippi State.

Stamps and Bell are the first two players from Warren County selected since Vicksburg’s Delmon Robinson and Warren Central’s Eric Richards in 2007. That was the first year the game was switched from a summer to winter event, and two all-star games were played. Robinson, a receiver, played in the all-star game in December of that year while the punter Richards played in the June game.
