Doug Tanner has announced his candidacy for Warren County tax assessor in the Nov. 8 general election.

Tanner, 53, an independent, is opposed by independent Ben Luckett, Democrat Angela Brown and Republican Mike Caruthers.

A resident of Warren County since 1971, Tanner graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1976 and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mississippi College in 1981. He said in a press release that his education and 30 years of experience owning, operating and managing A.L. Tanner Jewelers are his qualifications for the office.

“I am committed to using my education, my 30 years work experience and my 30 years working with the public to ensure that the tax assessor’s office is effectively and efficiently run for the benefit of the individual taxpayer, the business taxpayer and Warren County,” Tanner said in the release.
