PORT GIBSON — Rufus D. King died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at River Region Medical Center. He was 73.
Mr. King was a member of Central Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served for 23 years. He was retired from the Alaska State Prison after 15 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Jimison-King of Port Gibson; four sons, Rufus D. King Jr. of Fairbanks, Alaska, Jeremy Johnson of Port Gibson, Nathan Jones of Tacoma, Wash., and Joseph Jones of Puyllap, Wash.; a daughter, Jo’Ann Winger of Vicksburg; his mother, Berthina King of Port Gibson; four sisters, Ola Matthews of Dayton, Ohio, Ruth McCord of Dallas, Christine Kelly of Pattison and Earnestine King of Port Gibson; five grandchildren; other relatives and friends including Ginneta Anderson of Natchez.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Central Church of Christ in Port Gibson with Eugene Carney officiating. Burial will follow at Natchez National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home and Wednesday at the church from 9 a.m. until the service.
