A fire damaged an unoccupied south Vicksburg business Friday night.

The blaze at Cups-n-Cones, 3593 U.S. 61 South, was reported around 7:15 by the owner of the Quick & Easy Food Mart and gas station next door when an employee of the convenience store saw smoke coming from the small building.

Vicksburg Fire Department Deputy Chief Craig Danczyk said the cause of the fire was being determined, but it appeared to have started in some electrical wiring. Flames were showing when firefighters from Station 5 at the Vicksburg Municipal Airport and Station 8 on Halls Ferry Road arrived, Danczyk said.

The fire was extinguished within minutes, no one was injured and there was no threat to the gas station, the deputy chief said.

The snow cone stand is open only during the summer, said the gas station’s owner.

City man accused in Cain Ridge theft

A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail on a burglary charge, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Coleman McKay, 30, 3308 Highland Drive, was arrested by deputies at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday. McKay is suspected of taking a bottle of prescription drugs from a home in the 100 block of Cain Ridge Road, said Pace.

Bond was set at $5,000, but McKay was being held for the Mississippi Department of Corrections for violating probation, the sheriff said.
