Clinton blanks VHS boys in soccer, 7-0

Little went right for the Gators either as they dropped their division opener to powerhouse Clinton.

Joe Meadors found Gustav Wiman in the 19th minute for Clinton’s first goal and Markel Gladney hit from 18 yards to put Clinton up 2-0. Zaac Crosby and Meadors scored in rapid succession to expand the lead and Grant Gilliam’s corner kick delivery to Michael Orcutt gave the Arrows a 5-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, it was more of the same. James Oliver scored off Meadors’ second assist and Grammy Bobo completed the scoring

First-year coach Kevin Watson wasn’t happy with the effort for Vicksburg (1-5-2).

“I didn’t think they’re that much more skilled than us, at least not 7-0,” Watson said. “We just needed to clean up our play tonight and play better soccer. I thought the conditions weren’t a hindrance, but should’ve been an advantage.”
