SAN DIEGO — Willie Harold “Hal” Smith, a former resident of Vicksburg, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, in San Diego, Calif. He was 74.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Smith Sr. and Ruth Ann Kirkland Smith; three sisters, Bonnie Haymond, Anna Maud Jones and Mary Ruth Smith Wilmore; and four brothers, Mark Smith, Nathan Smith Sr., Francis Smith and Rufus “Dufi” Smith.

He is survived by a son, Charles Smith of San Diego; two daughters, Cynthia Smith and Linda Smith, both of San Diego; three sisters, Emma Roe Benard of Chicago, and Alice Mae Hill and Barbara Jean Pierce, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Frank Smith Jr. of Chicago, Harvey L. Smith of Dallas, and Dan E. Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren; and other relatives and friends including the Bingham, Mitchell, Parson, Reece and Ross families.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Greater Life Baptist Church, 938 Derby St., San Diego. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church, 1962 N. Euclid Ave., San Diego.
