Services for Barbara James Newsome will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas E. Bernard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the family present from 6 until 7.

Mrs. Newsome died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 51.

She was a member of Clover Valley M.B. Church. She graduated from Warren Central High School and received a business degree from Hinds Community College. She had worked as a medical coding clerk for the University of Mississippi Medical Center and River Region Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. and Williona James; and a brother, Jessie James.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert Newsome of Vicksburg; two daughters, Serena Corley of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Olivia Newsome of Vicksburg; six sisters, Khristine Doss, Thelma Washington Moran and Jacqueline James, all of Vicksburg, Gloria James of Atlanta, Betty James Tucker of Pawtucket, R.I., and Louvina James Noble of Chicago; three brothers, Melvin James of Augusta, Ga., and Willie James and John L. James Jr., both of Vicksburg; one granddaughter; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
