No quorum at Zoning; homeless issue held

A hearing on Mountain of Faith Ministries’ request for a special exception to operate a transitional housing facility for homeless people near the former ParkView Regional Medical Center was canceled Tuesday when the Vicksburg Board of Zoning Appeals failed to get a quorum.

Mountain of Faith executive director Tina Hayward said she had not decided whether to reschedule another hearing or ask the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to hear her request, pending a meeting of her board of directors.

The Board of Zoning Appeals in December had voted 4-0 to reschedule the meeting to Tuesday.

The seven-member board needs four members to have a quorum, and it has two unfilled openings.

Two members, David Sessums and Tommy Rawlings, said they planned to attend the meeting. A third, Fred Katzenmeyer, said he was not attending because his father lives in the area near the medical center, and he did not want to cause a possible conflict of interest issue. Attempts to contact board members Mark Corum and Warren Jones were unsuccessful.
