Ethel Brister Curtis

UTICA — Ethel Brister Curtis died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at her residence in Utica. She was 91.

Born in Canton, Mrs. Curtis lived most of her life in the Utica area. She was formerly employed by Traxler Gravel Co. and later was a bookkeeper for Kitchen Brothers Lumber Co. until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Edgar and Annie Olivia Turnage Brister; an infant son, Maurice Curtis; her husband, L.J. Curtis; six sisters, Eva Hopson, Emma McCormack, Louise Jenkins, Henrietta Wooley, Alice Arnold and Nell Jenkins; and three brothers, Sam Brister, Cecil Brister and Bill Brister.

She is survived by a daughter, Teresa Curtis of Utica; a sister, Lois Tidwell of Natchez; and nieces and nephews.

Services were at 11 today at Glenwood Funeral Home chapel in Utica with the Rev. William Harold Manning officiating. Interment followed at the Utica Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Greg Kitchens, Bobby Lewis, Mark Mitchell, Lamar Currie, Brett Caldecott and Gary Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were Lynn Gaines, Margaret Johnson, Sha-Sha Wilson, Bernice Wilson, Elizabeth Gray and employees of Beacon’s LLC Hospice, Advantage and Heritage House.
