George Ross Sr.

Services for George Ross Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Triumph Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Ross died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 70.

Mr. Ross was a member of Vicksburg Family Life Church where he was an ordained elder and a missionary to Haiti. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended Hinds Junior College, where he received certification in auto mechanics. He owned George Ross Excavating Services.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Alean Jones Ross; a daughter, Alice Marie Ross, a son, Larry Whitaker; a brother, Leroy Willis; and a sister, Maggie Carson.

Survivors include his six sons, George Ross Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael Jones Ross of Chicago, Jeffrey Ross and Kenneth Ross, both of Vicksburg, Omar Ross Floyd of Orlando and Jomar Ross Floyd of Dallas; five sisters, Ceola James and Patricia Wright, both of Vicksburg, Dorothy Ross of Ridgeland, Willie Lee Ross of Houston, Miss., and Colette Rice of Raymond; three brothers, Albert Ross of Vicksburg, Dr. Arthur James Ross of Jackson and Willis Ross III of Atlanta; 11 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including Elder Joseph Burns.
