The City of Vicksburg has received more time to answer a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by Mayor Paul Winfield’s former chief of staff.

A formal answer or pleading from the city must happen on or before March 19, according to an order signed Thursday by U.S. Magistrate John M. Roper. It came after a motion to that effect was granted. No other hearings have been set.

Kenya Burks filed suit Feb. 1 against the city alleging she faced a hostile work environment, sex discrimination and retaliation due to a consensual sexual relationship with Winfield. Burks seeks damages under federal civil rights and constitutional law.
