Watson joins Post as news editor

Steven G. Watson has joined The Vicksburg Post as news editor.
Watson, a 15-year newspaper veteran, comes to Vicksburg from Ridgeland, where he was associate editor of the Madison County Journal the last five years.
He has a background in news and sports journalism and previously was employed as publisher of The Winona Times, managing editor of The Times Post in Houston, Miss., and sports editor of The Itawamba County Times in Fulton.
Watson graduated from Tupelo High School and is an alumnus of the University of Mississippi, where he received a degree in English.
He has won numerous awards in news, sports, photography and investigative coverage.
In 2008, Watson was awarded the J. Oliver Emmerich Editorial Excellence Award, considered the premier annual honor given by the Mississippi Press Association to the state’s best editorial writer. He received the award for a piece written on members of the Canton Mayor and Board of Aldermen giving themselves 60 percent pay raises during a closed meeting.
