Funeral services for James Harold Smoots Jr. will be Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Faith Christian Center with Pastor Ledora Yates officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Mr. Smoots died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Jackson. He was 64.

He was a retired truck driver for Falco Lime. He also was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death his parents, James Albert Smoots and Rosetta Smoots; a step-daughter, Shelia Guise; and three brothers, Terry Lynn Smoots, Clarence Smoots and Winfred Smoots.

He is survived by his wife, Gennie Smoots of Vicksburg; six sons, James Smoots Jr. of Atlanta, and Larry Smoots, Tony Smoots, Elliott Jackson, Gary Guise and Leroy Guise, all of Vicksburg; three daughters, Hattie Guise, Sherika Guise and Jasmine Matthews, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Melvin Smoots of Atlanta and Michael Smoots of Vicksburg; two sisters, Rosanne Smoots of Las Vegas, and Mary Smoots of Redwood; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, including the Jackson and Reed families.
